This is the first post, obviously, for a new blog on educational gaming. Specifically, we will be focusing on educational video gaming, along with the research, press, and discussion surrounding the issue.
I’m in good company, as there are several excellent blogs related to educational video games. However, I hope to take a unique approach by examining the issues surrounding the uses of educational video games in formal learning situations (i.e., the classroom).
Some of the research mentioned in the blog will focus on efforts I’m involved in, but most of it will be focused on what others are doing. Educational gaming is a big open field for researchers, and there are many facets available for exploration. I’m particularly interested in hearing about research others have done. So, if you know of a published paper, or if you’ve read a news article about ongoing research, please clue me in and I’ll be happy to discuss it.
A little about myself: I’m a doc student in educational computing at University of North Texas, and the technology director for a school district in Texas. I run a little site that is a repository for several articles, both mine and others, at EduQuery.com. This blog will hopefully offer a public service as a compilation of research links, media links, and discussion surrounding educational video games.
